Road Trip…?
I’ve started tentatively planning an epic road trip for this summer…and not some little one like driving down to Florida or up to New York or something. I’m talking about an 8,000 mile cross-country circuit that that hits several major national parks, a dozen major cities, through desert, coastline, mountains, and prairies. It’s ambitious I know, perhaps too much so, but it stems from a longheld desire to explore the west coast of the United States. California, Oregon, Washington with Seattle, up to the beautiful city of Vancouver.
The national parks are: Sequoia Forest, Yosemite, Muir Woods, Crater Lake, Mt. Rainier, Olympic, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, the Badlands, and Blackhills. Here is an idea of it:
This is looking to be a nearly 4 week journey, but one that is sure to generate long held memories. Thoughts? Comments? Let me know.

there has never been a better idea, unless we were doing this on elephant back and we had lots of beer. for us and the elephants. i think we should seriously consider the possibility of somehow financing this trip while doing the trip. like if we dipped across the mexico border and brought back somethings. legal things. like people. ok thats awful. maybe we can just tape ourselves and sell the movie rights?

Ha ha ha. Dude. Has that been done before? Using elephants for a cross country trip? :)
I fully intend on documenting the trip heavily…I might buy a cheap digital camcorder and then post little video journals as we move along. It could be cool!

so which would be worse for the environment, the elephants or the car? perhaps finance the trip by collaborating with Toyota to reinvent the cross-country experience: the hybrid hike, or perhaps national lampoon’s replenishable vacation? camera, beer, and all the electricity, gas, corn, hydrogen, etc you need to make this an eco-friendly voyage. I can see a whole series of commercials (ala Coke adventures) documenting your journey, the parks you see (and save), and occasionally sporting your new toyota X…
and seriously, what’s with ditching the midwest?
