Sports Update
Terrible weekend for my sports team. The Carolina Panthers, better poised for a championship run this year than any other year, completely imploded on the arm of Jake Delhomme, who chose the worst time for his worst performance ever. Jake fumbled it once, through four interceptions that were cleanly grabbed by the defenders, and then one pass bounced off two people before it was picked up by a defenseman. I don’t blame that last one on Jake, but you simply cannot excuse 5 turnovers. It wasn’t just turning the ball over – it was timing. Two of them came right at the goal line. Three turnovers were completed in the first or second play of a drive. This kept our offense off the field, unable to get a rhythm. Carolina was the only team undefeated at home, and we had a first round bye. Our deadly running back duo was soaring, our receivers hot. This was the year! A terrible, terrible shame.
The San Diego Chargers couldn’t win in Pittsburgh, but I don’t blame Philip Rivers (and not because I’m biased). The Chargers defense kept Steelers on the field, giving up 1st down after 1st down.
Carolina Hurricanes got thrashed by the Bruins, 5-1.
NC State lost to Clemson in basketball.
My mom likes the NY Giants from her time up in NY, and they lost to Philadelphia.
Sigh.
The only ray of light this weekend was that Carolina lost to Wake Forest in basketball, much to chagrin of my dear Carolina friends. Sorry guys – time to come back down to Earth. Nice job, Wake.

why wait until then to lose Naman? I think Jan 31 and Feb 18 work just fine
I understand the pain Saket. For me this winter break had a lot of personal heartbreak, as we lost to Rutgers in the bowl game (Mom ’96 and all my friends) and lost to Florida in basketball (Dad ’79, Mom ’80, Sandee ’09…and the rest of my extended family)
