Question of the Week

We’ve a had nice string of warm weather out here at Stanford and folks back home in NC are just starting their summer vacation. So in light of this, what is a song you like that can be described as purely fun, bright, or even effervescent? Thinking back to my music collection, I actually don’t have too many of these.

I’ll venture two: one that I mentioned earlier when I bought the new album.

Sigur Rós - Inní mér syngur vitleysingur (translation: within me a lunatic sings)

And here is one I discovered a few days ago that somehow caught my ear, particularly the near-childish sounding ending.

Loney Dear – I am John

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Hands down, U2 – Beautiful Day. Sufjan Stevens – Come on! Feel the Illinoise! is also good, as is Sigur Ros – Hoppípolla, Matt Wertz – Everything’s Right, Frou Frou – Must be Dreaming, and my current favorite, A.R. Rahman – Jai Ho. :)

Virginia Coalition – Hurricane Song (This is Him)
OAR – That was a Crazy Game of Poker
    Dave Matthews Band – Warehouse
Ludacris – Welcome to Atlanta (not exactly effervescent, but still gets ya pumped for a summertime night on the town)
The Eagles – Take it Easy
    James Taylor – Mexico
Kenny Chesney – Keg in the Closet
    Stevie Wonder – Sir Duke
ZZ Top – Viva Las Vegas (a great cover)

Some of these aren’t in the same category as your examples, but this would be a pretty great summer playlist in my opinion.

    Sealion – Feist

I don’t really listen to this much normally, but it’s my powersong on my workout playlist. Very peppy. :-)

[...] within a few days I had already bought the album. Perhaps you can credit the Sigur Rós to Loney, Dear progression to get me used to falsettos, which feature prominently in Passion Pit’s music, [...]
