Pundits turn on Palin
It’s become increasingly clear over the past weeks that whatever McCain (aka “the Master”) and his candidates were trying to teach Sarah Palin has failed to sink in. And her recent interview with softball journalist Katie Couric has shown how lost she is when discussing any issue that can’t be answered by a rehearsed campaign line.
And its clear popular opinion of Sarah Palin has turned recently, as now more Americans disapprove of Palin than those who approve her. And the clearest sign of this change are the weather vane opinion experts. Fareed Zakaria of Newsweek weighs in:
Can we now admit the obvious? Sarah Palin is utterly unqualified to be vice president. She is a feisty, charismatic politician who has done some good things in Alaska. But she has never spent a day thinking about any important national or international issue, and this is a hell of a time to start.
There’s Romesh Ratnesar of Time writing about her interview with Couric:
But the more worrisome responses were the ones that betrayed her lack of curiosity about current events and reliance on bumper-sticker wisdom over complex thoughts. There were moments, in fact, in which you wondered whether she had been paying any meaningful attention to the world outside Alaska before McCain picked her as his running mate a month ago.
Even Couric herself can’t help put point out her unusual answers that occurred during their interview.
It’s clear now that the choice of Palin, while giving a temporary boost to McCain’s numbers, has turned out to be underwhelming to say the least. It’s too late to drop out so McCain is stuck protecting Palin from the media masses. Either way, what was once a massive asset for his campaign has turned into a massive liability.
[...] This was strictly impulsive. No idea what this will turn into. Will likely be sort of a glorified ’share this article’ as we do in Google Reader, except I’ll be able to add more of my own commentary. One nice thing is that I’d love for friends and other people to post their own thoughts, stories, articles, etc. My buddy Mike is already contributing. [...]
