Relating to Research
MERIT Research - Final Report
“High Powered Microwave Wideband Interference on Electronics.” Advised under Dr. John Rodgers and Todd Firestone at the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics (IREAP) at the University of Maryland - College Park. With my partner Konstantin Khrustov (University of Illinois at Chicago), this final report was completed for the MERIT Research Experience for Undergraduates program organized by the ECE Department at UMD.
This project shared 1st Place at the MERIT Research Fair, August 2006.
Independent Research Study - Final Report
Advised under Dr. Tom Conte, Director for the Center of Embedded Systems Research (CESR) at NC State, this research project was an investigation into how an embedded systems designer can utilize the low power consumption characteristics of analog signal processing while staying in a digital mindset. The key focus of this paper is in how to map poles and zeros in the z-plane to s-plane while maintaining frequency response characteristics.
Relating to Science
Copernicus and the Revolutionibus
Written for my ‘rise of modern science’ course, this paper discusses Copernicus’ famous work the Revolutionibus, short for the Revolutions of Celestial Spheres, in which he proposes a heliocentric theory of the world.
The History of Science in Sweden
This was for a course I took at Lund University in Sweden. It discusses the development of Swedish science from the Enlightenment onwards.
A Study in Uncertainty - Frayn and Copenhagen
A paper about one of my all-time favorite pieces of literature, the play Copenhagen by Michael Frayn. This paper examines the way Frayn incorporates the essence of Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle into the very structure of the play.
The Conflict of Being a Scientist and a Human
Examines the darkness in one’s mind that can separate a scientist from his humanity. Uses three works of literature to illuminate the ethical struggles that can create an intrinsic conflict with being a scientist and a human.
Relating to Humanities
Psalms & Suras, Shields & Swords in the Holy Land
The Role of Religion in the Middle East Conflict
I am particularly proud of this paper. I did an extraordinary amount of research (for me anyway) and preparation for this paper compared to other papers I have written, and its length is demonstrative of that. This paper examines the role of religion in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It looks at the way religion influences both sides of the conflict and describes possible ways towards peace. Written for a course while at Lund University.
Harry Martinson: Reflections in Life and Work
This poet won the Nobel Prize for literature and one of Sweden’s most cherished poets. A man of unparalled worldly experienced, he help pioneer a new style of Swedish poetry and commented on the growing interaction between man and science.
